The head of a stag supporting the light on the left faces the head of a boar on the right. Since their decorative theme relates to the hunt, these wall lights probably hung in a nobleman's hunting lodge or in a country residence. French courtiers considered the hunt a noble pursuit, one of their most important pastimes. The sinuous curves of these wall lights illustrate the Rococo style, which became popular in the mid-1700s.
