The rectangular box has straight sides, each with a centrally recessed panel. It has a wide convex molding along the base decorated with a Vitruvian scroll pattern that rests on four round feet. The top of each side has a curved molding decorated with a bay leaf and cross ribbon motif. The lid has a wide stepped concave molding with a matching Vitruvian scroll design and a slightly raised top supporting a large bouquet of naturalistically modeled flowers in extraordinarily high relief. The flowers are painted in polychrome enamels, the moldings with purple/carmine (camaïeu pourpre), green and black. Each side panel is decorated in monochrome purple/carmine with different broad shoreline landscapes incorporating an assortment of buildings (ruined stone towers, Italianate villas, rustic cottages) and minimal staffage.
