Two Chains

Small, round, flattened links form these two short chains. Simple gold wire pendants hang from each link and were decorated with gold granules and pearls or precious stones, now missing. Each chain has a hook-and-eye closure with a gold leaf-shaped plate, but the hooks are of different lengths. How these two short chains were worn is not known. They are too short to be worn individually, and there is no clear way to connect them into a longer chain.
